Building & Grounds

Stroll through Northern Hills Fellowship and its grounds. You'll see hand-woven works of art on the walls... a beautiful chalice designed and built by one of our founding members ... a serviceberry tree standing in memorium to a loved one. These personal contributions are the outward signs of our deep commitment to each other and to Northern Hills Fellowship.

GroundsWe believe a beautiful environment greatly enhances our spiritual experience. And we're fortunate to have such a place, thanks to many contributions of time and work by members of our congregation.

Our building rests on five acres of land that surrounds us with beauty in all four seasons, and provides plenty of room for outdoor activities. Woods line the rear of the property, with trails that allow for quiet walks. In summer, members tend small gardens in our sunny field. A Labyrinth is mowed into the lawn near the church, which draws people from throughout the community for meditative walking. There's also a newly refurbished playground, always a popular spot with children.

GardenThe church itself features an attractive, contemporary design. The oldest portion of the building was dedicated in 1968 to serve a small but growing congregation. The Quimby Room, our original sanctuary, now serves as a gathering place for meetings, parties and coffee hour. Two floors of classrooms house our Religious Education program, and are filled with the projects, artwork and ideas of our children. In 1995 we added on to our building with a nursery, office space, foyer and a new sanctuary, which features a soaring, beamed ceiling and large, floor-to-ceiling windows.

To the rear of the church you'll find our Memorial Garden, which offers a beautiful retreat for meditation and quiet reflection. The ashes of several of our beloved members are interred there. In spring, the garden is filled with the blossoms of pink and white dogwood trees and lovely purple and lavender rhododendrons.

Attractive landscaping continues around the church in every direction, emphasizing our respect and love for nature. It takes the dedication of many people to maintain the beauty of our church, most notably the Landscape Committee and Building and Grounds Committee. But we believe their efforts are well worth it.
