Chalice Camp for UU Kids!!

Northern Hills Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will be hosting its second annual Chalice Camp this coming summer. This is a four day long summer camp for children ages 3 to 10 which will offer children from around the Greater Cincinnati area a chance to get to know other young people their own age and to participate in a variety of fun acitivites based on our shared values as expressed in the Unitarian Universalist principles.

Our 2010 Chalice Camp program will center on evolution and how it is tied into the responsible search for truth and meaning and the interdependent web of all life.

2010 Chalice Camp

When: Monday July 19, Tuesday July 20, Wednesday July 21 and Thursday July 22
9:00am to 1:00pm

Where: Northern Hills Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (460 Fleming Road in Springfield Township, Ohio)

Whom: Children ages 3 to 10 (children from other UU churches in Greater Cincinnati are especially invited)

Cost: $30 per child for all four days (with a maximum of $60 per family)

Program Activities: We will have a different focus each day on the various stages of evolution, including activities tying them into 3 of the UU principles, and creation myths from different cultures.
Monday: We Are All Made of Stardust! The Big Bang and creation of our planet and solar system. Focus on respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
Tuesday: Life on Earth! How life began and flourished, the fossil record and dinosaurs! Focus on the free and responsible search for truth and meaning.
Wednesday: Human life! The evolution of humans, natural selection, Charles Darwin. Focus on the inherent worth and dignity of every person.
Thursday-field trip! We will travel by bus to Trammel Fossil Park in Sharonville for a dig, and then on to Sharon Woods for our end of camp picnic. Parents are encouraged to join us at 11:30 at Sharon Woods if you can! For parents who cannot join us at Sharon Woods, those children will be transported back to Northern Hills Fellowship for pick up.
Kids will play games, sing songs, do crafts, and have discussions each day related to these themes.

Age Groups: Children will be split up into the following age groups: 3-4 year olds/ Pre-K & Kinder/ 1st &2nd grade/3rd, 4th, 5th grade.

Responsibilities: Transportation is the responsibility of the parent/guardian. Children should wear gym shoes and socks (no sandals or flip flops) and clothing appropriate for the weather. We will be outside during the day, so please apply sunscreen and bug spray to your child before you leave them in our care. Each child should bring a brown bag/lunchbox lunch and water bottle. Please make sure they eat breakfast before they come. We will provide a snack mid-morning.

Registration: Registration must be received by June 19, 2010. Registration is limited to 10 children per age group, so register early! Send day camp registration, medical form and check or money order to Northern Hills Fellowship at the address above, attention “Chalice Camp”. Make check or money order payable to NHF Chalice Camp and mail to the address above. If you have more than two children attending, you only need to send in payment for the first two ($60). Confirmation will come by email by June 26 (if you do not have access to email, please state so on the registration form and you will receive confirmation by mail.) Families needing financial assistance should check the box on the form. There are a very limited number of scholarships available.

Refund policy: Money may be refunded for the following reasons only: Moving out of town; Illness or exposure to communicable diseases; Required attendance at summer school; Camp capacity is reached. To request a refund, send a written request by July 8th to Northern Hills Fellowship, attn: Chalice Camp. Refunds will not be given after July 8.
